Don't you think that's true though - the gutter politics thing?

The reason is that gutter politics doesn't always work and he misjudged London hence it backfiring this time

You don't think the Mayor actually does anything himself do you. There are countless GLA staff doing all that. The same cock ups will happen just the same with Khan. Be interesting to see how he deals with the RMT etc.

No, the Mayor is primarily a figurehead and spokesman firstly to promote London as a city.

At that Boris was superb.

Khan as good? - I doubt it.

A far bigger news story IMO:

At least seven police forces are actively investigating Conservative election expenses from the 2015 General Election

And to cap it all, Morgan announces a u-turn on academies. Great day for the Tories.

SIR Lynton Crosby.

What a fucking joke, as they have always been. Being a Tory MP for 20 years normally guaranteed you a K, I thought that was bad, now they are a bad joke. For example:

Sir Mick Jagger

Bobby Moore OBE

Fuckers

A 7% swing to Labour since the 2015 election, can't wait to hear Cameron's excuses.

I noticed earlier Ray, that Labour had done suprisingly well in the South of England.

Can't remeber where I found it amongst the right-wing dominated media

BBC projected national vote share in seats: CON 277 (-51), LAB 263 (+31), LDEM 30 (+22), UKIP 2 (+1), SNP 57 (+1), GRN 0 (-1)

But the media tell us it was a good day for the Tories.....

The left are funny.

"Labour lost in 2015 due to lynton Crosby and gutter politics".

" Labour win London in 2016 due to lynton Crosby and gutter politics. "

What exactly is the point in the Mayor?

The Lord Mayor of London is the important one isn't he?

I don't know who that cunt is either.

Labour generally are washed up.
Yeah Khan will win London Mayor but lets see how he gets on with the London Assembly and real issues when in the chair and not easy sound bites from the outside.
Be interesting to see where his real loyalties lie too.

Boris is the one who's spent 8 years doing fuck all and speaking in soundbites. A great, charismatic politician from a "personality" point of view with what to show for it? A white elephant multi million pound ski lift that no-one uses, massively expenses buses that don't work properly as designed, a bridge that will be largely corporate and not for the public... he's just a one man promotional machine.

Both Khan and Goldsmith suffer in that context because I feel both would have been more serious at actually being Mayor for London and getting things done. Khan will be a far, far better Mayor in practical terms than Boris or Ken were. But he won't have the recognition because he's not a circus act like those two have been.

Lynton Crosby gets his knighthood on the day Tory recriminations about his dog-whistle London Mayoral campaign begin, what a great country we live in.

Will citizen Khan be as much in the pocket of the super rich foreigners as Boris was?

What a legacy Boris leaves us with a corporate footbridge mostly not open to the public.

How times have changed, never thought I’d see in my lifetime a British Pakistani Muslim Mayor of London. He doesn't exactly have decent credentials either, son of a bus driver, bought up on a South London council estate, nothing wrong with it, but hardly inspiring. Goldsmith is just as bad from the rich elite spectrum, no one to represent the middle ground that pay all the taxes and keep the country going?

I am frankly disgusted by this. Boris probably only got in as he is of Turkish, Polish, Jewish decent and married to an Indian. I thought Livingstone being voted in twice was astounding, this is unbelievable.

If as Grumpster says the ethnic vote in London is at least 30% this can only grow and we can expect more of the same. This can only lead to more white flight from London, seems indigenous Londoners have already left in their droves. Sad to say I am disillusioned with London my place of birth and home all my life has been overrun with uncontrolled immigration that will never change. I am already planning my exit.

I hope we don't try and have a rerun as it can look like sour grapes.

I predicted the London result months ago. We don't have the infrastructure in London that labour do. Labour did better in London in the general so it doesn't surprise me.

Also our campaign was shit. We won the general on a message of economic security, tax cuts and protecting the NHS.

Instead we start moaning about the Muslims. It was like a campaign run by ukip. Italso shows that despite being very annoying that shapps knew how to campaign while Friedman doesn't.

Hopefully the idiots will relearn the lesson it took 15 years to learn last time that appealing to angry shouty people won't win you elections.
